Non-methylated DNA at CpG islands organizes histone methylation through ZF-CxxC proteins in epigenetic biological systems. DNA and histone Methylation is catalyzed by enzymes; such methylation can be involved in hodyonr modification, regulation of gene expression, regulation of protein function, and RNA processing. Methylation of heavy metals can also occur outside biological systems. Chemical methylation of tissue samples is also one method for reducing certain histological staining artifacts. The counterpart of methylation is demethylation.

The Global DNA Methylation ELISA test kit is a competitive ELISA for the quantitative measurement of 5-methylcytosine (5MedCyd). The unknown 5MedCyd samples or 5MedCyd standards are first added to a 5MedCyd DNA conjugate coated EIA plate. After a brief incubation, an anti-5MedCyd monoclonal antibody is added, followed by an HRP conjugated secondary antibody. The 5MedCyd content in unknown samples is determined by comparison with a predetermined 5MedCyd standard curve.

Human ELISAs or ELISA kits will be stored at +4°C. The expiry date is mostly determined by the standard stability. If your ELISA kit is expired we can supply a new standard so it will still be functional.

Upon receipt, aliquot and store the 5MedCyd Standard and 5MedCyd DNA Conjugate at -20ºC to avoid multiple freeze/thaw cycles. Store all other components at 4ºC.
